Euphorbia hirta : A Plant with an Enormous Therapeutic Potential

ABSTRACT

Euphorbia hirta is a very common plant occurring naturally in almost all over the world especially in Asian and African countries. The whole plant or its parts are used in traditional medicine prepared by the people of these countries. Presence of large number of phytochemicals such as flavonoids, saponins, phenolic compounds, tannins, glycosides, alkaloids, steroids, etc. is detected in aqueous, methanolic and ethanolic extracts prepared from various parts of the plant. Its role to cure asthma, cancer, dengue, malaria, diabetes, gastrointestinal problems, its antimicrobial effects and neuropharmacological activities are thoroughly
studied and compiled in the article. The present work provides a comprehensive review on researches conducted from time to time to evaluate the therapeutic potential of E. hirta
