ABSTRACT

The iron-oxidizing strain was isolated from the contaminated soil of the effluent treatment plant of the electroplating industry. The identified Acidothiobacillus ferrooxidans strain was found to have higher ironoxidizing potential under the microaerophilic conditions as compared to aerobic and anaerobic conditions. The maximum iron-oxidizing activity of strain was observed at 10% of the oxygen concentration.
Key words : Acidothiobacillus ferrooxidans, iron-oxidizing potential, microaerophilic conditions
