ABSTRACT

The present study deals with the phytochemical screening of leaves of 20 selected wild medicinal plants
such as Asparagus adscendens, Achillea millefolium, Betula alnoides, Dioscorea deltoidea, Ephedra
gerradiana, Ficus religiosa, Trillium govanianum, Valeriana jatamansi and Vitex negundo, etc. used by tribal
migratory shepherds in Sangla valley of district Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh. Phytochemical groups are
the dependable sources for the treatment of different health problems. All plant materials were collected
during the period 2017-18. The leaf powders of 20 selected medicinal plants were screened for qualitative
determination of different secondary metabolites like steroids, glycosides, saponins, alkaloid, flavonoids,
tannins, terpenoids and reducing sugar. The present study concluded that these medicinal plants possessed
important phytochemicals that helped to determine more effective medicines.
