ABSTRACT

Alangium salviifolium belonging to the family Alangiaceae is used globally for the treatment of various diseases. All parts of this plant including roots, stem, bark, leaves and fruits are used for the treatment of various diseases. An attempt was made to evaluate its pharmacological value through phytochemical analysis and antibacterial activity of leaves and fruits extract against two gram positive bacteria, namely, Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus pyogenes and two gram negative bacteria Vibrio cholerae and Shigella
flexneri. Results revealed that the leaves and fruits extracts were rich in diverse types of bioactive compounds and showed inhibition potential against all selected bacteria.
