ABSTRACT
Several technologies have been used to treat the household sewage but among them, anaerobic treatment is in trend due to its low energy consumption, low nutrient requirement and energy recovery in the form of methane. For this study, UASB reactor was constructed by using PVC material with internal diameter of 15 cm and height of 66 cm with working volume of 10.2 litres. UASB reactor was fed with raw sewage at the flow rate of 4 ml/min with the help of peristaltic pump. After treatment, the maximum COD removal was 85% and operating conditions like pH, VFA and alkalinity were in optimum range of anaerobic treatment. Results showed that UASB reactor had high efficiency and treated household sewage effectively.
