ABSTRACT

Rhizome of Acorus calamus (Acoraceae) and stem of Cuscuta reflexa (Convolvulaceae) were extracted by
using the ethanol and methanol as solvent to analyze their phytochemical constituents. Screening of
phytochemical revealed the presence of carbohydrates, glycosides, terpenoids, flavanoids, tannins and
alkaloids in ethanol and methanol extracts of both the plants. Saponins were found absent in ethanol and
methanol extracts of both the plants. Due to the presence of these phytochemical compounds, plants had
antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammation and antioxidant activities. The present study will be very useful
in the curing of a variety of diseases.
