Special Issue Information
Due to the combustion of fossil fuels, the emission of greenhouse gases, and deforestation, global climate change has been occurring over the past few decades, and it is predicted to continue in the future according to the CMIP6 climate work groups. Crops play a critical role in providing the essential calories and nutrition needed for human sustenance. Any disruption in their quantity and quality can have a severe impact on food security, especially in regions where food supply options are limited.
To address the adverse effects of climate change, which encompass elevated CO2 levels, heatwaves, droughts, low-temperature stress, hurricanes, and waterlogging, agricultural researchers have employed diverse strategies. In order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the effectiveness of these management strategies and their underlying physiological mechanisms, we have organized this Special Issue. Our focus extends beyond individual management strategies to include their interactions, which play a crucial role in mitigating the impacts of climate change.
It is important to note that we do not impose strict limitations on research approaches. Manuscripts related to this topic are welcome, including those focused on traditional field or pot experiments, crop growth models, meta-analysis approaches, and the analysis of big datasets. We sincerely invite researchers interested in this topic to make significant contributions to our understanding of climate change mitigation. We welcome all types of articles, including original research, opinions, and reviews.
Scope
Climate drivers: Elevated CO2, heatwaves, drought, low-temperature stress, hurricanes, waterlogging and related climate-change pressures.
Crop responses: Crop production, grain quality, physiology, plant growth regulation, resource-use efficiency and adaptation.
Management focus: Individual management strategies and, importantly, interactions among strategies for climate-change mitigation and adaptation.
Research approaches: Field experiments, pot experiments, crop growth modelling, meta-analysis and big-data analysis.
Article types: Original research articles, review articles, short communications and opinion-type contributions relevant to the Special Issue.
