ABSTRACT

The present research was carried out to evaluate the effect of supplementation of Shatavari powder on growth performance and meat quality of broilers. Average weekly feed intake, growth performance and feed conversion ratio were measured. The chicks were weighed and distributed randomly into four treatment groups viz., T0, T1 , T2 and T3 with 20 chicks in each treatment, on equal weight basis. The T0 birds were fed on a basal ration (Control). The T1 birds were given 0.5% Shatavari powder and T2 birds were given 1% Shatavari powder and T3 birds were given 1.5% Shatavari powder along with the basal ration. The experiment was conducted for 42 days, and various parameters were evaluated including feed consumption, body weight gain, FCR and proximate composition of meat. Total cumulative weight gain (g) of experimental birds supplemented with SRP was significantly (P<0.05) higher as compared to control group. A weight gain (g/bird) was found to be considerably (P<0.05) higher in 1.5% SRP supplemented group (T3) as compared to control. FCR was significantly (P<0.05) lower in 1.5% SRP supplemented group (T3) as compared to control. Dietary supplementation of 1.5% SRP improved the performance of broilers
