ABSTRACT
Colourful products are always attracting the customers; hence, colour has become the aesthetic factor in
the fashion industry. Different dyes and pigments are used as the colourants for the colouration of fashion
articles such as textile, footwear, etc. Dyes are majorly used in the textile industries and huge amount of
dyes are discharged out from the textile industries, causing pollution to the environment. The ability of the
microorganisms can be tested to treat the polluted environment by textile dyes. In the present study, three
actinomycetes strains, namely, Micromonospora sp., Streptomyces sp. and Micropolyspora sp. were isolated
from textile effluent adopted soil of Tiruppur district, Tamil Nadu and screened for their ability to decolourize
Reactive Red 35. Out of three strains, Streptomyces sp. showed best decolourization activity.
