ABSTRACT
Cape daisy is an ornamental plant, often found infected with begomovirus. Infected leaves showing vein net formation and yellowing were collected and revealed with begomovirus infection. Defective molecules of quarter and half in size originated from monopartite helper begomovirus were commonly generated by some deletions in virus genome. Characterization of defective molecules of PepLCBV and PeLCV from cape daisy showed that the molecules of half size were derived from the deletion of complementary sense strand genes, while quarter size molecule evolved by further deletion of some part of coat protein gene (AV1) causing truncated AV1.
