ABSTRACT
A study was carried out in the year 2014 for different strata viz., oak, parrotia, mixed broad leaved, pine, agricultural plantation, horticulture and grassland, in the lower reaches of Dachigam National Park of Kashmir Himalayas where we tried to project carbon credit values for the soils of study area. The results showed that the carbon credit value for the studied area ranged between US $ 0.09-1.38 million with respect to REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) market price. This baseline data can be used for assessing the changes in carbon for receiving benefits under different programmes to combat climate change like REDD+ and CDM.
Key words :Carbon sequestration, carbon credits, Dachigam National Park, soil organic carbon
