Cirsium arvense : A Multi-potent Weed

ABSTRACT

Cirsium arvense is an influential herb of Asteraceae family having potential therapeutic activity. It is a weed that is generally found in crop fields throughout India. Whole plant is reported to have medicating
and health promoting potential. The aim behind present review article was to assemble up-to-date and inclusive information about the plant C. arvense with particular focus over its ethnomedicinal potential along with its phytochemistry. Notable medicinal potential of the plant made researchers to focus over the specific compounds claiming its efficacy. The article reveals about the isolated compounds with their chemical structure and formulas that possess antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, anticancerous and variety of other remedial activities.
