ABSTRACT

The pretreatment of sugarcane bagasse using deep eutectic solvent (DES), choline chloride (ChCl) : urea for effective delignification and its comparison with acid and alkaline pretreatment was demonstrated. ChCl : urea (1 : 2) worked as a very effective extraction media for lignin extraction from sugarcane bagasse at 45°C temperature and 10% solid loading. It was shown that nearly 44.5% of lignin was separated in a
single step. The DES pretreated sugarcane bagasse showed the maximum reducing sugar yield of 322±11mg/g and saccharification efficiency of 24.5±1.1% after enzymatic saccharification with crude cellulase enzyme
in 48 h at 10% solids loading.
