ABSTRACT

The cow’s nutrition has an important role in milk composition. The main objective of this study was to find
whether the type of nutrition and/or the season (summer and winter) could have an impact in cow’s milk
components. This study was carried out in two farms located in Badoosh and Hamam Al-Alil (north-west
and south of Mosul city, Iraq, respectively). In this study, two types of feedings were applied, the concentrated
feed and green grass. The higher percentage of cow’s milk fat and total solid were observed in cows
consume concentrated feed. However, the milk protein concentration showed opposite picture. This study
also investigated the composition of fatty acid concentrations; the palmitic acid was higher in concentration
in cow’s milk feeding concentrated feed at summer and winter. The results suggested that both nutrition
and seasons affected the composition of cow’s milk.
