Efficacy on Seed Germination and Biological Yield of Summer SRI Paddy in Botanical and Chemical Weed Management at Gangetic India

ABSTRACT

The changes in the contents of enzymes activity of the seed rice and three weeds’ seeds Echinochloa colona (grass),
Cyperus difformis (sedge) and Ludwigia octovalis (broad leaf) were analyzed at different hours of germination. Amylase activity was tremendously increased at 48 h of germination and then decreased drastically at 96 h of germination. The amylase content in seeds during germination decreased with the application of the pretilachlor and botanicals as compared to control (no herbicide) but the degree of change was conspicuously less in rice T3(35.7 to 51.0%) and T2 (17.3 to 1.8%) as compared to three weed species. Maximum reduction of amylase content was found in seeds of grass weed in both T3–Pretilachlor (88.2 to 82.6%) and T2–Botanical (75 to 52.2%) treatments. These variations of amylase content in seeds during germination provide a unique opportunity to express the potentiality of physiological selectivity to crop against the herbicide (inhibitor).
