ABSTRACT

Rauwolfia serpentina (L.) is a woody perennial important medicinal shrub belonging to Apocynaceae family. In the present study, an efficient reproducible protocol for callus development from leaf explants was standardized using L-glutamine. L-glutamine enhanced callus biomass by 1.56 times at a concentration of 150 mg/l as compared to control treatment. The present study incorporated a step in the improved protocol for the callus development of R. serpentina by adding L-glutamine.
