This study aims at analyzing perceptions of consumers, related to the use of venison from captive as a source of alternative animal protein. The survey method was used to collect data with questionnaire instruments provided to selected respondents dinning at several restaurants in malls and hotels in Jakarta. The analysis was done with Top Two Boxes and Bottom Two Boxes that is the method that combined percentage of respondents’ answers in Likert scale. The results showed that consumers generally had positive perceptions towards venison, in terms of conservation status, utilization, food safety, quality and price. Although the consumers’ interest to consume venison was quite high, the legality factor was their concern. This study recommended key policy makers to focus their attention on awareness rising and to cultivate Timor deer for utilization by community while ensuring the preservation of the populations in nature.
