ABSTRACT
The present study focused on determination of antioxidant activities by DPPH free radical scavenging and nitric oxide (NO) scavenging assay in methanol extract. The significantly highest content of phenolic compound was obtained in leaf extract and flavonoids in methanolic root extract. Methanolic leaf extract had high level of antioxidant activity according to DPPH and NO assay as compared to root extract. All extracts exhibited antioxidant activity comparable to that of ascorbic acid. The correlation between total polyphenols and free radical activities was relatively high. The FT-IR spectroscopy confirmed the presence of polyphenols. Based on the results obtained, it was concluded that different parts needed to be analyzed for their natural antioxidant properties with relatively high content of phenolic content which had potential applications in both the pharmaceutical and health/food industry.
