ABSTRACT
The aim of the present study was to assess the length-weight relationship in selected fish species at mining bed stretch of river Ganga at Haridwar. Fish samples were captured with gill nets, cast net with the
help of experimental fishing done by local hired professional fisherman and after which samples were preserved in 10% formalin solution. In laboratory, total length (cm) and weight (g) were measured with the help of digital vernier calliper scale and digital weighing balance, respectively. To estimate the lengthweight relationship of each fish species linear regression equation was used. During the experimental
work, a total of 260 fish samples (92 specimens belonging to Cyprinus carpio; 68 belonging to Tor tor and 100 belonging to Labeo rohita) were captured with gill nets and cast net. The total length (cm) and weight
(g) were measured to estimate the growth pattern of selected fish samples in river bed mining area of Ganges riverine system. The b and a values of the LWRs were estimated 2.634 and 0.057 for Cyprinus carpio; 2.431 and 0.086 for Tor tor and 2.801 and 0.026 for Labeo rohita, respectively. The value of b<3 showed the negative allometric growth of selected fish species in river bed mining-impacted stretch of the river Ganga.
