ABSTRACT

Sheath blight is one of the important diseases of rice worldwide including Indonesia. One of the applicable controls for the disease is planting local varieties. Padi Hitam and Srikiti are the local varieties of rice known as cultivars with good potential of production. This study characterized resistance of cv. Padi Hitam and Srikiti to sheath blight. IR 64 and Inpari 13 were used as control. Padi Hitam and Srikiti showed moderate resistancece to sheath blight. Greater content of lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose of these two varieties over IR 64 and Inpari 13 was proposed as responsible factor. The other characters of the rice varieties were stem solidity greater than the superior varieties.
