ABSTRACT

In sunflower, a line x tester analysis was performed to determine the combining ability of inbred lines for seed yield and related characters. The results of combining ability analysis indicated the presence of high genetic variability for most of the characters. The estimates of general combining ability (GCA) variances were found greater than the specific combining ability (SCA) variances which revealed the predominant role of dominant gene effectively controlling of seed yield and its related characters. Among lines, CMS 234 A and among testers, AK-1R were found to be good combiners for seed yield per plant. Also a cross between CMS 234 A x RHA-586 exhibited maximum specific combining ability effects for seed yield per plant.
