Factors Affecting Psychological Well-being of Adolescents

ABSTRACT

This paper investigates how socio-economic factors in rural and urban areas can affect the psychological
well-being of adolescents. We collected data via survey questionnaire from 600 adolescents of Panchkula
district of Haryana state in which 300 adolescents were from rural and 300 adolescents were from urban
areas. All adolescents were studying in 11th and 12th class aged between 15 to 18 years old. Majority of the
respondents fell in the age group of 15 to 16 years in rural and urban area, studying in 11th class, belonged
to small size families, poor academic achievers, fathers of rural adolescents were in business/selfemployment, high income category. Pearson correlation showed significant correlation between all the
aspects of psychological well-being. Significant correlations were established between home environment
and psychological well-being of adolescents.
