ABSTRACT

For rapid multiplication of guava, there is a huge demand for superior rootstocks, but this demand is not
fulfilled because of slow and poor seed germination. Due to this, the experiment was laid out in CRD
with three replications to find out the efficiency of germination and growth of guava cv. L-49 at CCS
Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar during the years 2018-19 and 2019-20 with the priming treatment
of different HCL concentration (5 and 10%). Duration for HCL soaking was kept as 2 and 4 min. The
study revealed that minimum number of days taken for germination, maximum germination%, maximum
seedling length and dry weight of seedling were recorded under seed treated with 4 min 10% HCL
solution followed by 5% HCL solution for 2 min soaking of guava seed. However, maximum number of
seed viability was observed under control.
