ABSTRACT

The objective of this work was to evaluate six parental lines (Dharmapuri Local, Arka Abhay, TCR-2056,
Gobi Local, Pusa Long and Panruti Local) and three testers (Arka Anamika, Parbhani Kranthi and Punjab
Padmini) of bhendi generated by line x tester analysis to estimate heterosis at Department of Genetics
and Plant Breeding farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Annamalai University, Chidambaram by making 16 cross
combinations evaluated during summer and kharif 2019-20 in RBD with three replications. The
observations were recorded on days to first flower, plant height, number of branches per plant, number
of fruits per plant, fruit length, fruit weight, fruit yield per plant, number of seeds per capsule, 100-seed
weight and seed yield per plant. The results revealed that the cross combinations showing desirable
heterosis in majority of the characters were TCR-2056 x Punjab Padmini, Dharmapuri Local x Punjab
Padmini, Pusa Long x Punjab Padmini and Dharmapuri Local x Parbhani Kranti and were identified as
superior crosses for fruit yielding character. For seed highest standard heterosis was shown by Panruty
Local x Parbhani Kranti and Panruti Local x Punjab Padmini.
