ABSTRACT
The potential use of enzyme produce by macroalga and its symbiont bacteria from Tanjung Tiram has been conducted. This paper explains characteristics of the enzyme produced by microalgae and its symbiont
bacteria. The activity revealed that symbiont bacteria were able to produce enzyme cellulose. Methods used were enzyme extraction, enzyme purification by ammonium sulfat precipitation and dialysis, qualitative
assay by iodin test, quantitative assay by DNS method and UV- Vis spectrofotometry. Qualitative assay for cellulase activity of macroalgae showed no result, whereas its symbiont bacteria showed cellulase activity. The optimum temperature was 40oC, pH 7 and salt concentrations were 1 M. Quantitave assay of cellulase activity at optimum condition was 0.077 U/ml. Symbiont bacteria of Macroalgae from Tanjung Tiram were a potential source of cellulase enzyme for industrial purpose.
