ABSTRACT
Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae–the causal agent of bacterial leaf blight (BLB) of rice was isolated from infected plant samples from seven different agro-ecological rice fields of Kuttanadu, Alappuzha. The isolated strain was characterized using pathogenicity test, hypersensitivity reaction, morphological and biochemical analyses. Molecular characterization of the pathogen was also carried out by 16S rRNA sequence analysis. The results of these analyses confirmed all the strains as X. oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo), and there was no significant difference between the pathogenicity and activity of the isolates from the different fields put to test.
